Pariser Platz

Located next to the Brandenburg Gate, at the end of Unter den Linden, Pariser Platz is one of the main squares in Berlin.

Known until 1914 as Viereck (the square), after the fall of the Napoleonic troops happened to be called Place of Paris. It was the largest square in Berlin, through which the victorious troops marched from the Hohenzollern to the German Democratic Republic.

During the last years of World War II the buildings of the square were destroyed by the bombings, standing only the Brandenburg Gate.

After the war, came the construction of the Berlin Wall that ended up completely destroying the square, allowing it to become part of the area of death behind the wall.

In 1990, after the reunification, it was decided to rebuild the Paris Square, including the prestigious Hotel Adlon, to form the perfect architectural ensemble that accompanies the Brandenburg Gate.

The Paris Square today

Both day and night, the Place de Paris is one of the busiest places in Berlin since, from it, you can take the best photos of the Brandenburg Gate, one of the main symbols of the city.
