Unter den Linden (Avenue)

Unter den Linden

Unter den Linden

Unter den Linden (Under the lindens) is, along with the Kurfürstendamm, one of the main avenues of Berlin.

The extensive avenue constituted an important part in the cultural life of Berlin until the arrival of World War II; After 1945, most of its buildings were in ruins, trapped in the eastern sector under the rule of the German Democratic Republic.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, with the arrival of reunification, Unter den Linden regained its place as one of the city's favorite streets.

Most representative buildings

Throughout the mile and a half that extends the boulevard from the Brandenburg Gate to Schlossbrücke (Castle Bridge), you can see many of the most important buildings in Berlin, both from the tourist point of view and architectural.

Beginning with the Brandenburg Gate and the spacious Pariser Platz, with its well-known Hotel Adlon, Unter den Linden is an axis that shows the imposing building of the New Guard, the Bebelplatz accompanied by the building of the Berlin Opera, the University Humboldt and the Catholic Cathedral of St. Eduvigis before arriving at Schlossbrücke, a bridge that leads towards the Museum Island of Berlin.

Continuing a little further on, Unter den Linden ends up giving way to Karl Liebknecht Strasse, an avenue of similar structure, which shows the impressive Berlin Cathedral and, advancing a little further, leads to Alexanderplatz, with the huge Tower of television.
